Lookfly Neckies & Covid-19 Statement
We're infinitely appreciative of all the frontline staff who are endangering themselves to save lives and keep countries operating. To ensure the health and safety of the Lookfly team, and our community of customers, we are taking the recommended precautions, staying home and doing our best in order to reduce the demand on vital services.
We have received feedback from a few individuals in our UK community in regards to our Neckies and whether we should be selling or marketing them at this time.
What is a Neckie
We manufacture a product we call a Neckie; it's similar to a Buff. In fact, our partners at VC were the first to use the term "Neckie" over four years ago when they saw the desire for ultimate players to wear them on the field.
A Neckie is a fabric tube that can be worn around the neck, over the mouth, or as a headband. It's important that whilst it could be worn over the nose and mouth, it's not an alternative to a clinical mask or face covering. They are not scientifically proven to protect you from contracting or spreading any virus or illness.
We debated whether we should draw anyone's attention to Neckies in the current climate - we're determined that we should not (and should not be seen to) try to sell items on the back of the Covid-19.
This said, once the UK Government advice switched to encouraging making and using homemade facemasks, we thought it was reasonable to at least mention we stock this item. This is in no small part due to the UK Government advice including steps to make your own face covering from an old t-shirt or cloth, which has the same efficacy as a Neckie. On the 11th May a press release from the UK Government stated:
"We are advising people to consider wearing a face covering if they can in enclosed public spaces where social distancing is impossible...a face covering is sufficient and we encourage people to make these at home with items they will already own...Wearing a face covering is an added precaution that may have some benefit in reducing the likelihood that a person with the infection passes it on."
We hear those who have suggested we have not been careful enough with our messaging. We'd like to reiterate that we have never claimed that our Neckies have the same benefit as a clinical mask or respirator.
We urge everyone in the community to follow local guidelines for hygiene and social distancing. We're looking forward to seeing you out on the field again soon!
